Community Manager

It’s likely that you know Interac because you can send money via email or tap your debit card at the grocery store. What most people don’t know is that, many years ago, a number of Canada’s largest banks decided they needed an organisation that could facilitate payments and transfers of money.  Thus, Interac was born. Today, Interac is Canada’s leading payments technology solution and is chosen an average of 16 million times daily to pay and exchange money.  

Payments and fintech are one of the hottest sectors in the market and Interac is at the centre of the technology and innovation with the opportunity to truly open this world up beyond just banks.  We are accelerating the growth of digital payment in Canada and pioneering the future of payment technology.  A big part of our growth and innovation will be through our Development Centre.  This is the portal for innovative technology companies to collaborate with Interac and be part of the future of payments technology.  As such, we are looking for a Community Manager to be the face of Interac’s Development Centre online community.


The role

This is a role for an elite communicator.  Our new Community Manager is going to have a hand in everything we do - whether it’s new product launches or feature updates, you’ll be contributing to and talking about all of our projects. This means we need a dynamic individual who prides themselves on their ability to wear multiple hats and multi-task. This is an opportunity to frame a strategy and interaction model.  

At Interac, we trust smart people to make good choices and this role will afford you the opportunity to design and implement a solution from your own ideas.  You’re going to have to work hard but you’ll have our full support in blazing your own trail.


What our Community Manager will do:

  • Review and analyse.  You’ll go to the site to review new sign-ups and activity while taking opportunities to analyse data for use in future Community Management efforts.
  • Create content.  With every new feature update and product launch, you’ll be responsible for keeping our clients and partners up to date through customised content.
  • Collaborate.  This is a role that will touch almost every department in the organisation.  Whether it’s getting content approved for product release, sitting in on product meetings or providing feedback from the community to developers, our Community Manager will stretch across the organisation and play a key role.
  • Network.  This role is the face of Interac online.  The Community Manager will be responsible for representing Interac in virtual communities as well as at MeetUps, networking events and conferences.
  • Keep a pulse.  We expect our Community Manager to know what’s going on everywhere with everyone.  This includes clients, partners and competitors.  In creating content and responding to inquiries, you’ll need to be up to date on the latest and greatest in the developer world.


What our Community Manager will bring:

  • The education. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • The experience. We’re looking for someone who understands facilitation, translation and outreach of ideas.  In your academic or professional career, you’re known for participating in social events.  Previous startup experience is a bonus.
  • The technical knowledge. While we don’t expect you to be a master of code, we are looking for someone with an understanding of things like JSON, CSS, HTML and WordPress.
  • The passion. We want someone who’s going to love what they do - and love what we do.  Someone who’s going to pop out of bed in the morning because they can’t wait to tell the world about the awesome things we’re doing at Interac.
